Changes, Changes, Changes

30 May 2009

I have quit my television day job and started working for my web design and programming company. I might say the crisis did this, or the overwhelming stress, or even my desire not to go blind before 40. Whatever the reasons may be, it’s for the better. I will have more time for my current projects, such as the blog, the link directory, the Quake Quantum Engine and the upcoming projects (Phancee, cgButterfly and Blog Tycoon).

Life may change your track sometimes, but if you think positive you’ll see the light at the end of the new track. And maybe, sometimes, life hints you with a new (and more profitable) direction. I think I just found mine.

During the last months I noticed a drop in my AdSense earnings. I blame the crisis, of course, but I think this is the right moment to invest in my sites. If I double my web sites’ content, when the crisis is over, I will have triple earnings from Google AdSense.

Latest Video Work

27 May 2009

This is some of my video work in the past months. I’ve been playing with 3D scenes and renders, trying to build a nice demo reel. Stay tuned for the demo reel as it is still under development.

This is the intro of the demo reel. I got some inspiration from the Crysis intro and I tried to replicate the metal circle.

Remember not to use space scenes in your demo reels. They are ugly and everyone can do it.

This is a small fragment from the demo reel intro where I’ve used some excessive motion blur for the explosion. Looks nice, though.

This is a transfocalization/traveling test in 3DS Max and it looks damn good. I used keys for camera’s field of view.

This is the intro movie of my Romanian link directory, AfaceriOnline.net. It was used to promote the site in its early stages.

Beating Adwords Secrets and Yahoo Marketing – Getting the most out of Adsense. Useful Points to Take Into Consideration

26 May 2009

Google AdSense will give you a great resource for advertising your business. It enables you to advertise your business on various websites. You only pay them if consumers click on the link to take them to your website. This is an opportunity for a new business or one with a very small marketing budget to get themselves some recognition. You don’t pay anything if consumers don’t click on your advertisement.

You don’t want your ads just sitting on websites though. The whole purpose behind developing the ads and placing them is to get more interest in your products or services to generate an increase in sells. Properly using AdWords is the way to get this accomplished. The more popular keyword you use, the more likely your ad will appear on the page. While your website and product or service may be unique it is important to use common keywords, also known as AdWords.

It can be tricky to determine the right AdWords to use for your business. Various free tools to help with this process can be found on the Internet. The AdWords Keyword Tool is the most effective as it was designed specifically for this purpose. It will help you write advertisements that are rich in keywords that are common. Millions of people search the Internet everyday for various reasons including business, leisure, and shopping. Make sure your ads are in the same terminology they will be using while surfing the Internet.

Using an AdWords template is another great way to ensure you are using the right terminology to get your ads on the page and in view of the consumer. Some advertisers shy away from these templates because they fear their ads will look like everyone else’s. However, that is not true. The templates allow you to be as creative as you want to be in your ads, just giving you a tool to make them as effective as possible. Templates are very simple to use and are great for businesses who continually want to change and update their various ads.

The most common mistake made when it comes to AdWords is not understanding the mental image that each keyword represents to the consumers. If you are advertising globally, then it makes sense to use keywords in each geographical area that mean something to take population of individuals. Another common mistake with AdWords in Google AdSense advertisements is writing the ads from the company’s point of view. The focus needs to be on the consumer and how they will view the advertisement. It needs to be a teaser that gets them excited, grabs them, and makes them curious enough to take the link to your website in that very moment.

For best results, limit the number of keywords in a group. I know you are thinking I have been telling you to use more keywords, and that is true. However, try to get them to stand alone or in groups of two or three. If you get too many then a consumer has to type in almost an exact match to get a hit. This will cut down on the number of links back to your website with Google AdSense.

New jQuery TV Prompter Script

26 May 2009

I have released a new version of my custom TV prompter jQuery script. I was not satisfied by the modded installation of a deprecated software running only on Windows 9x and started to write my own. The script is very simple and it shades the X in XHTML by using the <marquee> tag. Shame to me, I know, but it behaves flawlessly.

The changes in version 0.2 are just a few. I have updated jQuery to the latest version (1.3.2), I have optimized the marquee script for speed by removing some unnecessary calls in the original jQuery routine and I have reorganized the directory structure. I have also externalized the CSS stylesheet for a quicker loading time.
