Google AdWords Mail Marketing

1 August 2009

A few days ago I received an envelope with Google logo on it. I wondered why Google needs to communicate with me by classic mail. I discovered a nice folded sheet of paper, written in Romanian and signed by a Romanian representative, which offered me a 200RON (that’s about 40-50USD) free AdWords campaign. That is a 200RON advertisement budget. It’s not much but it’s a start.

I decided to give it a try in a few days and advertise my blog. I will let you know what happens next.

Speaking of Google, I’d like to see more variation in text ads and more advertisers using image banners. The ad blindness disease is spreading very fast.

Beating Adwords Secrets and Yahoo Marketing – Getting the most out of Adsense. Useful Points to Take Into Consideration

26 May 2009

Google AdSense will give you a great resource for advertising your business. It enables you to advertise your business on various websites. You only pay them if consumers click on the link to take them to your website. This is an opportunity for a new business or one with a very small marketing budget to get themselves some recognition. You don’t pay anything if consumers don’t click on your advertisement.

You don’t want your ads just sitting on websites though. The whole purpose behind developing the ads and placing them is to get more interest in your products or services to generate an increase in sells. Properly using AdWords is the way to get this accomplished. The more popular keyword you use, the more likely your ad will appear on the page. While your website and product or service may be unique it is important to use common keywords, also known as AdWords.

It can be tricky to determine the right AdWords to use for your business. Various free tools to help with this process can be found on the Internet. The AdWords Keyword Tool is the most effective as it was designed specifically for this purpose. It will help you write advertisements that are rich in keywords that are common. Millions of people search the Internet everyday for various reasons including business, leisure, and shopping. Make sure your ads are in the same terminology they will be using while surfing the Internet.

Using an AdWords template is another great way to ensure you are using the right terminology to get your ads on the page and in view of the consumer. Some advertisers shy away from these templates because they fear their ads will look like everyone else’s. However, that is not true. The templates allow you to be as creative as you want to be in your ads, just giving you a tool to make them as effective as possible. Templates are very simple to use and are great for businesses who continually want to change and update their various ads.

The most common mistake made when it comes to AdWords is not understanding the mental image that each keyword represents to the consumers. If you are advertising globally, then it makes sense to use keywords in each geographical area that mean something to take population of individuals. Another common mistake with AdWords in Google AdSense advertisements is writing the ads from the company’s point of view. The focus needs to be on the consumer and how they will view the advertisement. It needs to be a teaser that gets them excited, grabs them, and makes them curious enough to take the link to your website in that very moment.

For best results, limit the number of keywords in a group. I know you are thinking I have been telling you to use more keywords, and that is true. However, try to get them to stand alone or in groups of two or three. If you get too many then a consumer has to type in almost an exact match to get a hit. This will cut down on the number of links back to your website with Google AdSense.

More AdSense Tips

18 December 2008

I’m running some AdSense optimization on my web sites and I’m trying to decide where to my readers click the most. That’s where I should concentrate my efforts. The key is to place an image ad to drw their attention. You might ask if that’s not dangerous, as the image ad might lead the visitor to another web site and lose him. Actually, I’m counting on my visitors’ loyalty, and I’m sure they’ll come back.

I’m also tracking my ads and my statistics and I’m quite happy with the bounce rates.

The 468×60 ad is quite common and visitors tend to ignore it. Their place is taken by the wide ads (300×250) which seem to be the best earners. I’ll try to change some of my ads and add more towers, as I’ve seen some good earnings at some of my friends.

Another graphic improvement is the rounded corners feature the AdSense provides. It’s a nice twist if used with contrasting colours, and it really draws your attention if your theme uses rounded corners.

Another thought just came up and I decided to test some variations. I’ll try to use a single AdSense ad unit on some of my web sites to increase my CTR.

What’s your secret recipe for ad placement?

AdSense Revolution (5 Killer Advice)

17 December 2008

Revolutionize your blog using AdSense units. Are you using AdSense to earn money? Try to diversify their placement and their colour scheme. Below are some basic advice for you to follow every 3 or 6 months, depending on your niche and on your traffic level.

1. Are you blending in your ad units? Make them a complementary colour.

2. Are you using contrasting colours? Blend them in.

3. Are you using 3 ad units on your blog or web site? Let go of the least profitable one. You will notice an increase in the other two remaining.

4. Are you using link units? They’re bad. They make your web site look built for AdSense and they require to clicks to earn you money. Actually, this depends on your niche and your experience with them. I could use some feedback here.

5. Are you using ads below the fold (i.e. do your users need to scroll the page to see more ads?)? This is not good. Try to place all your ads above the fold, or try a smart placement and use them near comment fields or relevant related posts for example.

And, as always, track everything and see what fits your web site best.

Secrets of AdSense

20 September 2008

Well, the title may fool some readers, however I’m sick of all the AdSense secrets. There are no such secrets. AdSense is a tool for webamsters to make money. If they make money, Google is happy, so why would there be any secrets that Google keeps away from us?

Because there are no secrets. There are only optimizations. And lots of work. I recently read some AdSense secrets e-books scattered on the Internet, which usual readers must pay for. A reasonable amount at first, but when I started reading the books, I realized that’s pure theft. The first half of the book states that this book is different and the secrets are real and the owner makes lots and lots of cash using them. Why would the author need to sell a book using an awful sales page with big red letters, insulting our intelligence?

Those sales page are absolutely ugly, they look like… but hey, I was talking about the e-book. The second half tells us about building link farms, joining some obscure networks, downloading software, optimizing keywords to the extreme, and so on and so forth.

Where’s the reader bond? Where’s the social part of blogging or having a web site? Apart from corporate sites, of course?

What about commenting and making valuable contributions? Not a word is mentioned in any of those books.

So, the conclusion? There are no secrets of AdSense, mark my words, NONE! It’s just building a blog or a web site, or 2 or 10 or 100, optimizing them, writing constantly, commenting, optimizing again, and more. It’s a lot of work, but it’s just like any other job. Work for money. Not try to game the system, as you will eventually get caught and expelled. Would you have the same enthusiasm and energy to start from scratch and bang your head at the wall as to why you had to try that technique you read in that book you paid 50 bucks or less?

Just out of curiosity, make a search on Google Images for “AdSense cash”. Fun, isn’t it?
