Blog Tycoon Is Going Green

2 February 2010

Blog Tycoon is going green. I am joining the green movement, against global warming and environment destruction. While some of you may be familiar with the following projects, here they are:

The first one is a tragic short story, created by McCann Erickson for a Portuguese association called Quercus.

Watch a related movie featuring inflatable polar bears here:

The second one is a blockbuster, called Home. With aerial footage from 54 countries, Home is a depiction of how the Earth’s problems are all interlinked.

In 200,000 years on Earth, humanity has upset the balance of the planet, established by nearly four billion years of evolution. The price to pay is high, but it’s too late to be a pessimist: humanity has barely ten years to reverse the trend, become aware of the full extent of its spoliation of the Earth’s riches and change its patterns of consumption.

With co-producer Luc Besson and the narration voice of Glenn Close, Home 2009 is a must-see.

Watch the whole movie on YouTube.

Where Am I Blogging From?

6 January 2010

Where are you blogging from? Some of us blog from home, some from work, and some carry a laptop and write articles from all around the world.

I live in a small (but proud) country in Europe, by the sea, and I use a notebook to blog. Click on the thumbnail to the left to see a bigger map.

The red country is Romania, and the sea by it is the Black Sea. That’s it, now you know. What about you?

2010 Blogging Poll

6 January 2010

I did a quick poll last year to see what bloggers want to do in 2010. The answers were “Write more content”, “Socialize more”, “Promotion and marketing” and “Brand awareness”.

Just as I suspected, bloggers want to write more as opposed to socializing which does not bring any real benefit to a money-making wannabe blog.

The answers percentage was as follows:

Write more content - 55%, Socialize more – 18%, Promotion and marketing – 18%, Brand awareness – 9%.

While neglecting socialization and marketing, writing more content comes first which is a good thing. But this should be combined with more brand awareness, otherwise bloggers might get lost in the sea of MFA sites, spammy sites and article factories.

What poll should come next? Brainstorm some ideas.

Smashing News!

18 December 2009

Why smashing?

Because Smashing News is my latest web project. It is an RSS news aggregator finding posts and articles from the most used categories ranging from lifestyle to politics. You can also receive Smashing News updates via Twitter.

The project is doubled by a local sister site that does the same thing only in Romania. Hopefully, I’ll bring them up in the first quarter of 2010.

The former Phancee project is now ClubCafe.org, a community for men and women with over 6000 culinary recipes.

Oh, and my affiliate marketing projects started earning a bit during this winter.

I love the smell of profits in the morning!

The Web Is Oversaturated With Blog Networks

5 December 2009

The web is full of blog networks and they all go on the same pattern. Join the network, add a widget (not a small banner or a text link) to your blog and it’s done. But the widget is either JavaScript, either AJAX, or worse, Flash. Referral link behind the code, slow loading, slow page scrolling, are just a few of the disadvantages. They just don’t get you real visitors, or better CTRs, or returning visitors. Just one-timers not worth bothering your blog with. That is the widget. You get my meaning.

I am (still) registered with BlogRush. But it’s a shame what happened lately to it. The careless start made them regret later.

I am also registered with BlogCatalog, a nice directory with discussions and groups. But 75% it’s all crap. They are turning it into a “shameless blog promotion”, or teen discussions trying to get some backlinks (did I mention that BlogCatalog has “nofollow” enforced?). Hey, watch out for Google is on the move.

It could be a great idea wrongly put in practice. Damn wrong.

Other blog networks include BlogFlux (with a free template), MyBlogLog, and more, not worth mentioning here.
